Holy Jessica Rabbit! Chastain went old Hollywood with loose, romantic waves swept over one shoulder. Her bronze winged eye shadow perfectly complements her Atelier Versace gown.

Nominated for her work on the Hunger Games: Mockingjay soundtrack, Lorde traded her signature wild curls for a pin-straight, extra-long ponytail, which she paired with a matte red lip and custom Narciso Rodriguez suit. It's a sleek update on Madonna's "Express Yourself"—and a refreshing break from the typical red-carpet fare.

The Lanvin jumpsuit, the pretty makeup, the rumpled waves—it looked like Emma Stone couldn't be any more on point. And then she turned around to flash the silver barrette settled atop her red lob. The girl is flawless.

She pulled out all the stops with a snow-white Alexander McQueen ball gown, major diamonds, and an old-Hollywood flower-adorned hairstyle. Thank you, Salma, for never disappointing on the red carpet.

To offset the glitz of a large butterfly wrist corsage and a ruffled Chanel gown, Knightley kept her makeup (pink on her lips and cheeks; chocolate brown on her eyes) soft and romantic.

The red-carpet darling's hair—a bit longer this year—was sculpted in a way that looked blown back from the hairline. Nyong'o played off her Giambattista Valli Couture gown with fuchsia lips.

Her glowing skin and smoky charcoal eye shadow brought the heat. Lopez's teased-at-the-crown hair, long locks, and lipstick a shade or two lighter than her skin color was a little 1960s mod, yet she made the look unmistakably 2015 with a sparkling, deep-V gown.

A few bobby pins to keep her hair over one shoulder took Witherspoon's shiny blonde hair from cool street style to red-carpet glamour. Her makeup is simple, but it makes her skin glow, her lips shine, and her blue eyes stand out.

The model-turned-social-media-darling elevated the ponytail, figuratively and literally. With lots of volume at the crown, a few undone wisps, and a bouncy, thick tail, she showed cheerleaders the world over how to do it right.
